Hawkinge is a large village on the North Downs above Folkestone, approximately three miles north of the town centre. It is best known as the site of RAF Hawkinge — the airfield that played a crucial role in the Battle of Britain in 1940, and now home to the Kent Battle of Britain Museum.
The village has grown significantly since the 1980s and now has a population of around 7,000. Local amenities include the Hawkinge Village Centre with shops and services, Hawkinge Primary School, and local sports facilities.
The Kent Battle of Britain Museum at Hawkinge aerodrome contains the largest collection of Battle of Britain artefacts in the world, including original aircraft parts and uniforms. The museum is one of the most visited heritage attractions in East Kent.
